ASTM International’s petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants committee (D02) presented the Lowrie B. Sargent, Jr. Award to Mark T. Devlin, technical advisor at Afton Chemical Corporation, Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A.
Devlin was honored for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the committee. He was previously honored by the committee with the Award of Appreciation (2002), Eagle Award (2017), and Award of Excellence (2018).
Devlin has served in his current position since 2010, having previously worked as an intramural research training award fellow at the National Institute of Health before joining Afton Chemical Corporation in 1990.
He has been a co-author or co-inventor on more than 150 technical presentations, papers, and patents. These technical publications cover a broad range of topics related to the fundamental activity of lubricants for use in engines, transmissions, automotive gears, and industrial machinery. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Duke University and a doctorate degree in physical chemistry from the University of Virginia.
In addition to ASTM International, Devlin is also a member of the American Chemical Society, Society of Automotive Engineers, and Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers.
